The Person

My name is Tara Pyfrom (she/her) and I was born and raised as an island girl in the beautiful Bahamas. I've always been fond of colourful descriptions and have been writing poetry and short stories since I was a child.

I work as a freelance writer and bookkeeper. I love to travel. When I'm not writing, I spend my time plotting the next far-off adventure with my wife and daughter.

The Person

When I tell people that I am from the Bahamas, I inevitably get looks of amazement. There are almost always comments about how lucky I am.  My country's natural beauty is an innate part of who I am. The ocean is a big piece of my soul.

Today, I live in New Brunswick, Canada, and though I no longer live in the tropics, the ocean is still in my every concept of beauty and power.

The Thing

Through years of therapy I managed to turn my unimaginable real-life experience into a memoir. Meshing lyrical writing with intense storytelling to create an edge-of-your-seat tale of both physical and emotional survival.

The Ocean in Our Blood is my first book and is about my family’s harrowing survival of a massive Category-5 hurricane and our

two year long recovery.
